This is totally cheating because it’s not a bike tour at all. It is, however, a significant trip to British Columbia…and so I included it as the final chapter of the Lord of the Roads Trilogy. My girlfriend and I bought a house earlier in the summer and after moving in we thought we deserved a holiday of wine touring in the Okanagan.
Since I wasn’t alone and it wasn’t really a wine tour I didn’t write daily journals, so here’s a collection of pics from the trip:
After a very long car ride out to Kelowna, this was the site that greeted us.Heather had never been to a winery before so I took her on a tour of Cedar Creek before we did any tasting. The theory was that one gets a better appreciation of the wine if they know the craft and science behind itWe hit Mission Hill of course, just to see the wineryAfter Mission Hill it was Quail’s Gate, Little Straw, and then Mount Boucherie. This is their tasting room.Oh, and Volcanic Hills. They actually have a massive tasting roomWe enjoyed some lunch on the patio at Summerhill one day. We hit St. Hubertus down the road and Heather loved it. Of course we hit the Carmelis Goat Cheese ArtisanWe enjoyed Sunday brunch at Quail’s Gate.We went south after Kelowna and hit some Naramata wineries including Red Rooster (pictured), Elephant Island, Hillside, and Black WidowLake Breeze was actually quite niceWe went down to Osoyoos for a few nights. It was overcast and rainy. I had never seen the south Okanagan like that in the summerWe found this dog at Desert Hills and tried to play with himSilver Sage was a hit. Here’s the wonderful hostess doing her thing…Oliver Twist was a treat as alwaysThe Tasting Room at Oliver TwistWe ate MANY samosas. For some reason all of the orchards sell them.
