Day 10: Relax

Sunday, Aug 12, 2012

It was great to be back in the Lower Mainland.  I always love the weather there…everything always seems so fresh no matter if it is sunny, rainy, cool, or warm.  More than that, it was great to see my friends Scott and Gill again- two of my closest friends that I pretty much only see once a year and whose son Silas is my godson.

I had no real agenda for this day other than just going with the flow and visiting.  After waking they made a killer breakfast of poached eggs, lobster tails, seared scallops, toast, and bacon…all outside on the balcony in the warm morning sun.  It was a hell of a great start to the day.

After breakfast we walked a few blocks to a community festival/fete/party that was going on.  Live music…giant sandcastle in the street…balloons…a giant mouse…and a bunch of tables for local merchants to flash their wares.  We hung out for a bit and then we made our way back to their place where we visited for a while and then had naps.  I don’t know if it was the sun or if the constant traveling was getting to me, but I had to have a nap.  Pretty sure I was out for a few hours.

At about 4:00 they dropped me off at a Skytrain station for a little late-day adventure.  I rode the train all the way to the Waterfront station in downtown Vancouver where I met my friend Leanne and another friend of hers for dinner.  We enjoyed locally brewed beer and shared a nice dinner overlooking the water.  Leanne is another friend that I only really get to see once a year, and it was really nice to catch up again.

Later in the evening I caught the SkyTrain back to Port Moody where Scott picked me up.  We hung out for a while until heading to bed at around midnight.  I was looking forward to a good night’s sleep.  I would need it- tomorrow was going to be a very aggressive day of riding as I headed into wine country.

Note:  The feature picture above is of Victoria.  I actually didn’t take any pictures this day.
