“People become less productive over time without a break, and time away should not be seen as a luxury, but as a necessity.”
That is a direct quote from the first paragraph of the prologue from the Little Miss Sunshine Tour 2009
I’ve come to learn that this isn’t true. People don’t need holidays. Holidays are a luxury. Many people are perfectly capable of enormous amount of productivity without trips or breaks.
However, sometimes there are things that we all do that are sacred. Some of us are lucky to have something that is important to them…something that is so profound that it somehow becomes part of who they are.
I am one of the lucky ones…because I have that something: my annual motorcycle tours. While holidays are great to recharge the internal batteries, these tours are much more than that. They are something I look forward to all year, and there’s never any debate about whether or not I should go on tour. I just do.
It’s that thing I do.
Just to recap the past FOUR tours:
Easy Rider Tour 2006: a 12 day journey to the Okanagan wine country, a quick trip to Vancouver, then home.
Ryan & Silver’s Excellent Adventure 2007: A 19 day journey to the Okanagan via the Kootenays, a weekend on a houseboat in the Shuswaps, back to the wine country, then a return home
Magical Mystery Tour 2008: A 22 day journey to Tofino on Vancouver Island, back to the Okanagan wine country, and then a return home via the Kootenays
Little Miss Sunshine Tour 2009: A 21 day journey to Vancouver, a ride over to the Kootenays, back to the Okanagan wine country, and then a return home.
And…now presenting That Thing You Do Tour 2010! This year’s tour is scaled back compared to previous years and promises to be fast paced and action packed. I will be on the road for 13 days and will tour south through the Kootenays to the Okanagan wine country, over to Vancouver, and then return home.
